CHECK ENGINE light? How about a CHECK GAUGES light? They can be very different things, but the bottom line is to either "know" what your car is telling you, or let someone who does deal with it. A "Check Engine" light is usually coming from the cars "ECM" (engine control module) or depending on how new, over 20 different computers. A code will be generated that is usually somewhat cryptic like "P1870" that if you're lucky will be OBD2. OBD2 codes are then interpreted, via a book, the internet, or a sweet little hand held diagnostics gizmo. Any way, it will interpret the code into "Transmission slipping" and if you're lucky and have an expensive gizmo, will indicate which gear and more info. What caused the code, is the problem returning, permanent, repairable? It sometimes can be a detective story from there. A "Check Gauges" light is a different thing. It is simply telling you to look at all of your gauges because one or more of them are indicating trouble. The gauge should indicate the nature of the concern. Use the above guideline and call us if you need help. When you get an unfamiliar light on your instrument panel, especially the CHECK ENGINE light, either call your automobile maker's dealership and schedule for a drop off with a diagnostic minimum charge of up to $135, or call HI-LO and drop by for an immediate analysis, and expect no charge. We are serious about serving our good customers like you.
